About Yarmouth

Yarmouth Nova ScotiaYarmouth, Nova Scotia is one of Nova Scotia's truly historic seaports. During a significant period of time in the 1880's, Yarmouth was the second largest port of the registry in Canada, and the second largest port in the world behind Liverpool, England.. Evidence of the wonderful successes of this period are still to be found when strolling through this town full of history and architectural structures that tell a tale of a different time.

While in Yarmouth, visitors will enjoy touring Canada's only provincial Firefighter Museum, taking a walk around one of the finest lighthouse sites on this continent at Cape Forchu and experiencing some of the wonderful artifacts at the Yarmouth Museum.

Visitors to Yarmouth will also appreciate the beauty of the surrounding woodlands, beaches and walking trails. Every summer, there are numerous festivals and activities to partake in.

Yarmouth is the regional centre for South Western Nova Scotia and a gateway to the Lighthouse Route and the Evangeline Trail. Yarmouth is home to an International Airport, two provincial bus lines, and two ferries departing daily in the summer from Bar Harbour and Portland, Maine. The South Western tip of Nova Scotia owes much of its history to the sea and has many links with New England.
